Organic memory
Animal or biological memory, including that of humans is far more
complex than machine memory. We are just beginning to understand the
deeper workings of memory and how we use it.
Memory is a key component of learning where our short and long
term memory interact to help us recall and process information.
Genetics play a part in memory, as does instinct. Conscious
memory, however, seems to be unique to humanity. Animals do remember
because learning involves remembering and animals do learn. But
their recollection is different than ours. They cannot think to
themselves "last week this happened," or "when I was a puppy I
learned how to obey."
Recreating organic memory is a future technology as much as
augmenting our own memory with memory implants is.
