Small Computer Systems
Interface (SCSI)
|
|
SCSI is a computer data communication
standard devised by the Apple Computer Corporation and standardized
by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to allow
personal computers to communicate with components such as hard
disks, printers, cd-rom players and writers, tape drives, scanners
and so forth.
The main advantage of SCSI over EIDE
is speed and transfer rate. The latest SCSI-2 Ultra standard has a
top data transfer speed of 80 Mb per second. Somewhat faster than
the Ultra DMA/66.
|
Another plus of the SCSI standard is
in that it allows devices to be daisy chained. One device can be
hooked up to another instead of each in a separate port, as is the
case with PCI. This new Universal Serial Bus (USB) has this
multi-linking in common with SCSI. |
